Melissa added that she eventually realized that she couldn’t save Beckett and made peace with the fact that he might lose his life.
Melissa and Julie welcomed Beckett after the latter was artificially inseminated. [They] initially kept the identity of the biological father hidden, it was later discovered that it was David Crosby.
Despite that, the “Come to My Window” crooner admitted that she felt the occasional pang of guilt about not doing more for Beckett when he was alive.
Melissa had first spoken about her grief when she appeared on an episode of Good Morning America last month. According to Daily Mail, while the 59-year-old claimed that she had learned to remain “busy,” she recalled how her late son’s addiction began.
Melissa stated that Beckett turned to opioids after he broke his ankle during a snowboarding event. It would be recalled that Melissa confirmed the news of her son’s passing in May. Us Weekly reported at the time that she put out a statement via Twitter that read :
“My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today.”
Melissa continued by stating that Beckett, whom she shared with her ex-partner, Julie Cypher, would be missed by “those who loved him, his family and friends.” The singer-songwriter also ensured that she expressed her gratitude to the people that showed her love during her dark time.
Following the confirmation of Beckett’s death, several celebrities took to their various social media platforms to pay him tribute. CBS News noted that Jane Lynch sent some “love and comfort” to Melissa while the Human Rights Campaign expressed their heartbreak at the 21-year-old’s passing.
